Wheelchair curling was introduced to the Paralympic Games in 2006 and Canada won the first three gold medals consecutively (2006, 2010, 2015), and bronze in 2018. Wheelchair curling originated in Europe in the 1990s and was adopted in North America soon after. The main difference between wheelchair curling and curling is that in wheelchair curling, there is no brushing.
Classes
There is only one sport class in wheelchair curling. Athletes are required to have an impairment affecting their lower body and they must compete in wheelchairs, however not all athletes use a wheelchair in their daily life. Teams are required to have mixed genders and have at least one female athlete on the ice at all times.
